How to Use Strong and Secure Passwords

How to Use Strong and Secure Passwords

In all probability, most of us would be aware that using obvious or guessable passwords such as “password” or your pet's name isn't a good idea at all. But then what options do you really have to come up with a strong and secure password?

First things first, you should have a different, fairly long and very strong password for each account. It's tempting to use the same password for all of your online accounts, but doing so puts every account in jeopardy if one of them gets hacked.

To break into accounts, hackers often employ a method called “dictionary attack”, which involves using words straight from the dictionary to guess the passwords. So it is strongly recommended that you don't use standard words as your passwords; rather try creating meaningless words from a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. And don't just replace letters in a word with a simple (e.g. 'A' with the @ symbol) because that's a very common trick. The password can be strengthened by using a blend of lower and uppercase letters.

The password should be quite complicated. But still, try and use something which you would be able to remember. Come up with something which incorporates various alphanumeric characters. Ideally, it should be a mnemonic sort of thing which you can instantly memorise. But if you see that this is not happening then spend some time in memorizing that password.

Now remembering more than one passwords can be a daunting task. This is where a password manager comes into the picture. KeePass is a fairly good, free password-management tool that runs on Windows and Mac OS X. It stores all the passwords in one encrypted database which can be accessed by a single master password.

Then there's a multi-platform password manager called LastPass which comes with the capability of auto-syncing different computers and browsers, thereby, giving you the access to your encrypted database from any device. However, the catch here is that you sacrifice the security of keeping your password list combined to a single drive.

These password managers are great but not 100% safe. The best password is the one you generate yourself, which is highly complicated with a mix of upper and lower case letters, symbols and numbers. The trick lies in picking up a short phrase or a long word and get creative with it.

Summer Skin Care

Summer Skin Care

Excessive heat during the summers disturb the critical oil-water balance in the body. Too much of perspiration clogs the pores and exposure to the U.V. rays results in premature aging, wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Also there is a risk of skin cancer.

Freshen Up Your Skin
  • Splash water on your skin in an interval of 2-3 hours.
  • Gentle steaming of face helps in getting rid of the dirt on the face.
  • Pat dry your face instead of rubbing it with towel.
  • Use cleanser, then tone your face using a good toner and then rub ice piece on your face.
  • Avoid caffeine and hard drinks.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Take small but frequent meals and avoid protein rich diet.
Sun Protection
  • Use sunscreen of 30 SPF if you have fair sensitive skin.
  • Do not use sunscreen after expiry date.
  • Apply first coat of the sunscreen 20 minutes before going out in the sun and second coat of the sunscreen 20 minutes after going out in the sun.
  • Reapply the sunscreen if you are out in the sun for a long time.
  • Recoat the sunscreen after swimming or being in water.
  • Try to do the heavy exercise in the cool hours like in the duration of 5-7 a.m.
  • Use glayers to protect your eyes from the harmful U.V. rays.
  • Infants under 6 month must be kept out of the sun.
  • Sunrays can be equally hazardous in the cloudy day.

Lip Care Tips

Lip Care Tips

The moist and smooth lips not only look healthy but also contribute in enhancing your looks. No doubt the lips are an integral part of your make up. The moist lips hold the lipstick color best and also look beautiful. The make up of the lips keeps changing with the mood of the time and occasion. Here are few guidelines in this regard:

Morning Lips
Make your lips soft and smooth by giving dry, flaky lips the brush-off. Every morning 'brush your lips ' with a soft baby toothbrush and then apply some lip balm to your lips.

Bed Time Lips
Before going to bed you should apply the moisturizing cream on your lips. Do so regularly every night and you will wake up every morning with softer lips.

Every Day Lips
You should try to avoid over exposure to the sun rays as they can absorb moisture of your lips and make them dry. If you have to spend a lot of time outdoors, then you should go for 'triple lipstick ', with moisturizers and sunscreen built right in.

Party Lips
Time for party means time for high profile lips, which are possible through those fruit-flavored lip-glosses. For that ultra-gloss look you should apply a dash of metallic lip-gloss over the lipstick in the center of your lips.

Shimmer Lips
The application of shimmer lip colors in golden shades and iced pastels make your lips look sweet along with the moisturizing lipsticks or glosses in pearly nude, candy pink, lilac, silver and gold shades.

Glossy Baby Lips
The lip-gloss is more fashionable as compared to the lipstick. And it is applicable at all the occasions. It can help you get those baby lips with a hint of pink and a natural shine.

Kissable Lips
Only soft and smooth lips could be pretty enough and inviting to kiss. So if you want to be owner of those lips then make your lips kissable by applying lip balm to them every day.

Perfect Lips

Perfect Lips
Everyone wishes for that perfect shape of the lips. But even slight imperfections can cause great distress. Never mind, this little problem could be solved very easily. What you need to do is just know the right way to create great-looking lips in no time. Here we are with the steps to create the perfect lip design:

Required: Lipstick, Lip Gloss, Lip Pencil and Lip brush.

Outline your lips perfectly by following the below:
  • First of all dot your lips with the help of a lip pencil at some main points such as at the edge of each corner on either side of the upper lip. Then add two more dots, one at each of the twin peaks (the crests) at the center of the upper lip.
  • Once you have dotted the main points then connect all the dots. Start with connecting the dot on each corner up to the dot on the crest on the same side. After that connect the dots on the crests together. Thus you will complete outline of the upper lip.
  • Now it is turn of the lower lip. Start outlining from the middle of your lower lip, lining outward three-quarters of the way to the corners of the lower lips. And then stop when you are about to get to the corners.
  • After that it is time to fill in the lips with lipstick or lip-gloss. With the help of your lip brush apply the color evenly. Blend any visible edges of your lip pencil line with lipstick. You should use your lip brush to apply and blend the lip color.

Hair Care Home Remedies

Hair Care Home Remedies

It's not always necessary to spend a lot of money to have great-looking hair. If you like the idea of avoiding synthetic products and harsh chemicals and enjoy using healthy, organic ingredients to treat your hair, you can make many different homemade hair care products using ingredients that can be found in your kitchen.

Homemade Mask for Dry, Damaged Hair
If you have dry or damaged hair, you can make a homemade hair mask to be used as a weekly deep-conditioning treatment. Mash half an avocado with half a banana until the mixture is completely free of lumps, and apply it to dry hair before shampooing. Cover your head with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave this on for up to 30 minutes. Rinse the mixture from your hair completely before shampooing, and condition with your usual conditioner or use a light, leave-in conditioner.

After-Shampoo Rinses
In her book "Natural Beauty at Home," Janice Cox provides recipes for several homemade rinses that can be used after you're finished shampooing your hair. Mixing the juice of one lemon and 1 cup water and rinsing with this mixture can give your hair body and shine. If you have a lot of residue or buildup from styling products, mix 1 tbsp. baking soda and 1 cup water, then rinse with this after shampooing. If you want to give your hair extra life and body, rinse with 1 can of flat beer. Make sure to rinse these mixtures from your hair completely with cool water.

Dandruff Control
If you have dry scalp or dandruff, several effective remedies are worth trying. You can use an apple cider vinegar rinse by applying 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar directly to your scalp, leaving it on for 15 minutes, then rinsing and shampooing. Some folk remedies even suggest that rinsing with Listerine can be effective for use in treating mild cases of dandruff. In her book, Janice Cox provides another home treatment for dandruff control. According to Cox, for a dry flaky scalp, prepare a home remedy using 2 tbsp. jojoba oil and 1/4 tsp. tea tree oil. After combining these ingredients, apply it to wet hair, leave it on for 20 minutes, and then shampoo it out.

Natural Highlights
If you have light brown or dark to medium blond hair and you want to add some natural blond highlights, use lemon juice. Mix the juice of three lemons with 1/3 cup water, put this mixture in a spray bottle, and spray it all over your hair. Sit out in the sun for a while; this will lighten your hair anyway, but using the lemon juice speeds the process. Make sure to thoroughly condition your hair afterward, as lemon juice can be very drying.

How To Pluck Eyebrows

How To Pluck Eyebrows
  • To avoid any redness or swelling, do this a day before. If doing it the same day then prefer doing it in the morning time as this way the puffiness and the redness caused has a chance to subside before you apply any makeup.
  • Brush your brows in a natural shape with the help of eyebrow brush or a toothbrush.
  • Don 't over-pluck your eyebrows and don 't pluck above the eyebrows, as it will look strange.
  • Use a good quality and sharp tweezer otherwise the hair will break instead of being pulled out and this may cause an infection.
  • Pull one hair at a time, gripping it firmly and pull it out in the direction in which it grows.
  • Try to pluck your eyebrows little at a time so as to avoid any swelling or pain.
  • Numb the skin with a teething gel before you start plucking, as it will not hurt much.
  • Before plucking, soften your eyebrows with a shaving cream or hair conditioner.
  • Take a warm cloth soaked in hot water and lay it on your brows for 2-3 minutes before plucking as this helps in opening the pores and thus make the plucking easy.
  • The area between the brows is less sensitive, hence pluck the stray hairs from this region first as it will cause less pain.
  • Start plucking from underneath the eyebrow, working from the inside, by the nose, to the outside.
  • Now check your eyebrow balance in the mirror.
  • Apply warm petroleum jelly to your brows after plucking so as to get relieve from any skin irritation.

Kannada Actress Suma arrested on Prostitution charges

Kannada Actress Suma arrested on Prostitution charges

Kannada actress Suma (29), who has appeared in several Kannada movies and serials, was arrested along with another Lakshmi, on charges of prostitution.

The narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch arrested both the actors for running the racket.

Based on a tip off, a police team raided a hotel on West of Chord Road and arrested the duo and two other pimps red-handed. Suma has worked in movies like Sandalwood and Arbhata in supporting roles, and was being paid Rs. 20,000 by Lakshmi every day to entertain clients.

"Lakshmi used to arrange the client and the room and would escort Suma to and from the points (sic)," Assistant Commissioner of Police R Lakshman said.

Lakshman said besides movies, Suma has acted in Kannada soaps like Rangoli, Mangalya and Baduku. Lakshmi has also acted in many TV serials.

The police said that the duo wanted to make a quick buck, and have been in the profession for many months.

"The accused have been booked under the Immoral trafficking Act and remanded to judicial custody. The police are also looking for another pimp identified as Ravi, who managed to escape during the raid," Lakshman added.

Federal deficit impasse hinges on parties' tax ideology

Federal deficit impasse hinges on parties' tax ideology
It's no surprise Democrats and Republicans in Congress are having a hard time reaching a deal to extend the national debt limit when they can't even agree on the definition of tax increases.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans, argues "closing loopholes that allow some people not to pay their fare share of taxes is not what I look at as a tax increase."

But Louisiana's seven Republican congressional members are holding to a pledge they signed from the conservative Americans for Tax Reform that defines tax increases much more broadly.

The pledge commits the signers "to oppose increases in the marginal income tax rate for individuals and business and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."

That would mean savings from eliminating tax breaks could not go for deficit reduction.

President Barack Obama wants to eliminate some tax breaks for oil and gas companies, hedge fund managers, and those who purchase or lease corporate aircraft, producing one dollar in extra tax revenue for every two dollars in budget cuts as part of deal to extend the debt limit. Without an extension by Aug. 2, Obama's Treasury Department and many private economists predict a sudden rise in interest rates that could trigger an international economic crisis.

Republicans continue to say there won't be deal if the president and Democrats insist on tax increases that they argue would harm an already struggling economy. Democrats argue that only cutting programs that primarily benefit the middle class and poor, without touching the special tax breaks reserved for America's wealthiest businesses and individuals, isn't true to the American tradition of shared sacrifice.

Variety of tax stances

Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia, who got extensive news coverage when he declined a presidential invitation to join the GOP House caucus for a deficit reduction discussion, said his constituents don't want any tax increases.

"I don't think there's any appetite for that right now because people don't think we've gotten government spending under control," Landry said.

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., and Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, support elimination of special tax breaks, but only as part of a deal to lower overall tax rates. Rep. Steve Scalise thinks "any change in tax policy should result in lower overall taxes," spokesman Stephen Bell said.

Those positions, though dominant among congressional Republicans, aren't universal.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and several other GOP senators are pressing their colleagues to end the tax subsidy for ethanol, the corn-based additive to gasoline. Vitter and 32 Republicans went along, but not as part of a deficit reduction package.

Graham has said savings ought to go toward reducing the deficit. Do away "with the ethanol subsidy and a bunch of other subsidies that go to a few people, take that money back into the federal treasury and pay off the debt," Graham suggests.

Danbury boxer Rodriguez set for July 15 bout in New York City

KERHONKSON, N.Y. -- The Catskill Mountains sure are beautiful this time of year, but Delvin Rodriguez didn't drive all the way up here to admire the scenic views.

Rodriguez, a 31-year-old boxer who was born in the Dominican Republic, grew up in Danbury and sharpened his skills at the Hat City Boxing Club, is here for one reason -- to work.

And work.

And work some more.

Rodriguez's next bout will be a 10-round, junior-middleweight battle against Pawel Wolak on July 15 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. The fight will be the main event on ESPN's Friday Night Fights.

And Rodriguez, a one-time welterweight world-title contender, knows he'll be ready when the bell rings. He has spent the last month living and training at a secluded camp in the Catskills, a good two hours away from Danbury, to prepare for this fight.

The cabin that serves as Rodriguez's training facility is equipped with all the necessities to train a fighter -- a boxing ring, a timer, various punching bags and a few other tools of the trade.

The determination it takes to win, well, Rodriguez has supplied that himself.

"I have nothing to think about but boxing, all day, every day," Rodriguez said as he sat on the cabin's front porch following a sparring match. "It's a great get-away for the fight, great preparation."

And it's anything but a vacation.

"It's non-stop," he said. "I get up at 5 in the morning, do my running, some exercise and shadow boxing. And rest, of course. Rest is maybe even more important than training. You have to let your body recuperate. So I rest, and then in the afternoon I come in and I train and do the boxing part. And when I am resting and sitting in the house, I'm watching his fights and just thinking about the fight.

"That's the tough part about boxing, it's the training and the discipline you have to have," Rodriguez continued. "Half of my year, I'm in camp. I go back home for a couple months and come right back to camp. This is like my second home, really. It's definitely tough. I have a 9-year-old and, of course, he wants to be doing stuff with me.

"There are days here where you get up and you don't want to be here," added Rodriguez, who also does work for ESPN Deportes. "That's when you have to breathe hard and think about the fight and say `Hey, it's going to pay off after.'"

And Rodriguez will have an old friend in his corner for this fight, as Fernely Feliz -- another Dominican-born fighter who trained at Danbury's Hat City Boxing Club back in the day -- is Rodriguez's trainer.

BERLIN — Twenty thousand yoga fans braved persistent rain in Berlin's Olympic Stadium to take part in a huge festival organised by one of India's best-known gurus, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

The two-day event, billed as "the world's biggest yoga camp", features meditation, music and dance from across the globe.

But the 70,000 participants that organisers of the World Culture Festival had hoped for failed to materialise, with numbers affected by wet weather.

The event also celebrates the 30th birthday of the Art of Living Foundation, created by 55-year-old Ravi Shankar to promote a "stress-free mind and a violence-free society".

Shankar, always dressed in white and sporting a long dark beard, is one of India's five most influential people, according to US magazine Forbes.

He once studied under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi -- the guru who famously inspired the Beatles. He is not to be confused with the world-famous sitar player Ravi Shankar, also associated with the Fab Four.

The stadium built for the 1936 Olympic Games plays a central role in the German sports and cultural calendar, hosting Berlin's main football team, concerts by the likes of U2 -- and in September Pope Benedict XVI will hold a mass there.
